Gold Rush Redemption

After thinking I had lost out on my gold rush redemption pack due to my own procrastination (I had the wrappers since the first week of February, didn't send them in until Feb. 28th) I finally received them in the mail today.  How did I do?  Take a look:

I was hoping to pick up either the Starlin Castro or Ryne Sandberg cards but no such luck.  That being said, feel free to contact me for a trade on any of these.

Prime 9 Redemption Offer

Ladies and Gentlemen!  I present to you the insert 'hit' that is even less of a value to me than the ToppsTown codes from previous years, the Prime9 redemption offer:

You see, even though I live in a city with a population of 250,000 it would still require a 200 mile round trip to a participating card shop to redeem.  While I'm all for trying to get people into local card shops, it seems short-sighted to automatically shut out a large portion of your customers.

Well, my logistical loss can be your gain.  If you live in an area where you can use these just leave a comment and I'll send  them your way.  The week 8 offer doesn't start until April 2 so you should receive these before they're expired.

Oddball Rynos and a Rhino

More card show pickups!  Lately I've been focused on completing team sets but I found a few Sandberg cards that I couldn't pass up.

I remember trading with a friend for this back in the early '90s and after we had traded they took it upon themselves to stand it up for the first time.  Needless to say, the trade was cancelled.

A few Denny's cards.  The only card I remember getting while eating at a Denny's was a Ruben Sierra.

And then, there's this:

Wow.  This surpasses the 1984 Fleer Jay Johnstone on the unintentional comedy scale.  And what's with the shoes?  You would think if they were going with the whole safari concept they wouldn't have stopped at the ankles.  Now, take a look at the back:

It's safe to assume this came out after the '89 season was complete but there's no trademark or logo of any kind.  Any help?

Card Show Pickups Part 1

I took the day off work today to go to my first card show in years.  After spending the last few nights making a list of some cards I was looking for and setting some basic ground rules for myself (namely, a nice card collection doesn't store well in an eviction notice) I was ready.  I just got back home and discovered two things:

1.  I only picked up one card that was on my want list.
2.  I don't care about discovery 1.

I went in hoping to complete some Cubs sets from the '80s & '90s.  I left being much closer to having completed sets from the '60s than I have sets from the late '90s.  To start, here's 1963:

These two were traded to the Cubs, along with Lindy McDaniel, from the Cardinals.  I picked them up for 0.25 each.

More quarter pickups!  Every time I see a card of Jim Brewer, this comes to mind:

But the highlight of the '63 Cubs I picked up today has to be this:

The best part about it?  I found it while looking through a dealer's dollar box.  He didn't know how it wound up in there himself but I was amazed when he honored the dollar price.  Well, maybe he saw the growing stack of cards I had on the table and decided he was going to get money out of me regardless.

More to come!
